What skills can you provide?

I’m a principally composer for films, television, games, and other interactive media.

What are your goals?

Writing for media means that I have a single overall goal, and that is to enhance to quality of your project.  I have a background in both business and music. This dual experience means I can combine the provision of creative and imaginative musical solutions with my commitment to delivering a quality production on time, on budget, and in a professional manner.

What styles of music do you write in?

I’m interested in most genres of music. I have a ‘classical’ training, and that allows me to analyse different genres and create music in almost any style. The key is to be adaptable whilst still retaining a unique voice. The diverse range of people’s needs is what makes this job interesting.

Why do you compose music for media?

There is no one answer to this question. The main reason is that it is very rewarding, both on a professional and personal level. The variety of work is very exciting, and makes for a stimulating and challenging creative environment. Working with other creative people to help them achieve their goals is a very fulfilling experience. Take a great project, and add great music to it, and you have something really special, whether it be the lighting of the beacons in ‘Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King’, or Yuna performing the ‘Sending’ ritual in ‘Final Fantasy X’. Basically I love what I do!

What about sound design?

A lot of the skills and technology involved in making music are also used in sound design. We’re living in an age where ‘electronic’ and ‘acoustic’ instruments are being blended to such an extent, that the line where ‘music’ ends, and ‘sound design’ begins is not at all clear. Music is ‘organised sound’. Sound design is ‘organised sound’. Whilst I am principally a composer and not a specialised full time sound designer, my skills in music production do enable me to contribute to the sound design elements of a project and ensure they integrate into a cohesive whole with the music.

What should I do next?

Best thing to do is to drop me a line. I’m always interested in hearing about people’s projects, and discussing how I might be able to contribute.
