stephen piano02I was born in 1968 in London and discovered an interest in music at an early age. Although I don’t remember it, at primary school when asked to play ‘Three Blind Mice’ on the recorder by my teacher, I apparently instead gave a stirring rendition of ‘The Magnificent Seven’ main theme (not easy to pull off an epic western theme on a recorder!), and so began a huge passion for film music.  Fortunately I am now a little better at producing music to a brief than I was back then!

I went on to read for a music degree at the University of Surrey in Guildford, where I studied composition and orchestration with Steve Goss and Sebastian Forbes, and piano performance with Clive Williamson. I also have a diploma in media music composition.

Public performances include pieces from the solo piano (Beethoven - Piano Sonata in C Op.53 ‘Waldstein’, Schubert Fantasy in C Major ‘Wanderer’); chamber (Beethoven - Piano Trio in Bb Op.97 ‘Archduke’) and concerto (Cesar Franck - ‘Symphonic Variations’) repertoires. I have also performed at the Guildford International Festival (Aaron Copland - ‘Piano Variations’).

I now spend the majority of my time composing rather than performing, and work full time as a media music composer.  My musical interests are very wide ranging including classical, jazz, ragtime, world, dance, rock, and many others. I have composed, arranged and recorded over forty tracks for the internationally acclaimed ‘Extreme Music’ production music library, and also created several tracks for a recent release on the Bruton label of ‘Universal Publishing Production Music’.

I have many interests beyond music, including cinema, art, reading, walking, chess (principally losing horribly) and others. I  have a golf handicap of 16 which apparently I played to once, although it is difficult to remember back that long ago. I am also a qualified chartered accountant, but please keep that to yourself because if it gets out no one will talk to me at parties.
